Weston Kitchen Remodel

This client felt that the existing kitchen in their home was very generic, builder-grade, unappealing, and in a different style than what they would prefer. There was a half bath directly adjacent to the fridge location that the homeowner laughed about, saying that she could grab a beer while sitting on the toilet, while the pantry location was at the end of the kitchen, in a location that didn’t seem to make sense. Additionally, they felt that it wasn’t set up in a way that facilitated people who cook a lot. The remodel was meant to increase the functionality of the kitchen as a whole, change the aesthetic entirely, and create a space that would be the heart of the home.

The location of the half bath was swapped with the location of the pantry, and the entire kitchen was gutted. New cabinets, all new finishes, and increased storage capacity as well as specialized features like a double pull-out rack storage for spices, oils, and specialty cooking ingredients were integrated into the cabinet design. A modular storage system traditionally seen for retail design or tool storage in garages was used within the cabinets housing the pans to hang the pans, but then is out of view enclosed within the cabinet wall.
A better work triangle was instituted in the kitchen by rearranging appliance locations for the kitchen and stove and prep areas. The island was enlarged and better lighting installed for task work. A ventilation duct was run to the exterior of the home to replace the recirculating fan. A hidden USB charging station lives within a drawer in the kitchen island as well, allowing minimal surface clutter.
By replacing the French doors with sliding doors, the area allowed for circulation and the footprint of the island were able to be changed.
